Sneak peek: September 2012 new royalty books

September's new royal titles include a book about Kate Middleton's first year as Duchess of Cambridge, a new biography of Alexander the Great, and some new historical novels about royal women. Here's a sneak peek.

As always, publications dates are subject to change. The full list of new royal books will be published on the Royal Books page on September 1.

A Year in the Life of a Duchess by Ian Lloyd. An illustrated look at Kate Middleton's first year as the Duchess of Cambridge.

Sex Lives of the Kings & Queens of England by Nigel Cawthorne. An expose of royal sex scandals from Edward VIII to the House of Windsor.

Alexander the Great: The Story of an Ancient Life by Thomas R. Martin and Christopher W. Blackwell. This biography explains what made Alexander "Great."

Ashoka: The Search for India's Lost Emperor by Charles Allen. Through his third century BC quest to govern the Indian subcontinent by moral force, Ashoka transformed Buddhism into a major religion.

I, Jane: In the Court of Henry VIII by Diane Haeger. Novel from the point of view of Jane Seymour, third wife of England's King Henry VIII.

The Unfaithful Queen by Carrolly Erickson. Novel about Henry VIII's fifth wife, Catherine Howard.

The Purple Shroud: A Novel of Empress Theodora by Stella Duffy. Former actress Theodora and her husband Justinian have been crowned Emperor and Empress of the Byzantine empire, but ruling is no easy task. (Sequel to Theodora.)

If I could only read one of the books listed above, I'd probably pick Ashoka because I watched Shahrukh Khan's movie Asoka a few years ago and would like to learn more about the real emperor. Which book would you choose?
