Royal bestsellers: January & February 2013

In the first two months of 2013, World of Royalty visitors remained interested in books about the downfall of 20th century European royalty and aristocracy.

But it wasn't all gloom and doom. Two illustrated books about currently reigning monarchs — Britain's Queen Elizabeth I and Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck — also made it onto this bestseller list, along with a book about royal women in England's Wars of the Roses.


Imperial Requiem: Four Royal Women and the Fall of the Age of Empires by Justin C. Vovk. About German empress Augusta Victoria, wife of Wilhelm II; Britain's Queen Mary, wife of George V; Alexandra, wife of Russian tsar Nicholas II; and Zita of Bourbon-Parma, wife of Charles I of Austria.


Dressing the Queen: The Jubilee Wardrobe by Angela Kelly. The author is the dresser and personal assistant of Queen Elizabeth II.


The Last Tsar: Emperor Michael II by Donald Crawford. Biography of Russian tsar Nicholas II's brother Michael, who succeeded to the throne when Nicholas abdicated in March 1917.


Bhutan: Through the Lens of the King by Pavan K. Varma and Malvika Singh, photos by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Essays about the King of Bhutan and his kingdom, accompanied by over 160 of the King's photographs.

Blood Sisters: The Women Behind the Wars of the Roses by Sarah Gristwood. About seven women, including Marguerite of Anjou, wife of Henry VI; Cecily Neville, mother of Edward IV; and Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII.


Former People: The Final Days of the Russian Aristocracy by Douglas Smith. How a centuries-old elite, famous for its wealth and service to the tsar, was destroyed along with the rest of old Russia.
