Royal bestsellers: May & June 2013


The Royal Bestseller list is based on sales made through the website and the Royal News Blog. Over the past two months, only three books were popular enough to qualify as bestsellers. Fortunately, two royalty-related DVDs sold well enough to fill out the list.


Serving Victoria by Kate Hubbard. This book follows the lives of six members of Queen Victoria's household, drawing on their letters and diaries, many previously unpublished.


Queens and Mistresses of Renaissance France by Kathleen Wellman. Tells the history of the French Renaissance through the lives of prominent women, beginning with Agnès Sorel, the first official royal mistress, and concluding with Gabrielle d'Estrées, Henry IV's powerful mistress.

Diamond Queen. A documentary on DVD marking the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. It features interviews with prime ministers, world leaders, and members of the royal family.

The Queen's Palaces. Three films on DVD tell the stories behind the creation of Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.


In Destiny's Hands: Five Tragic Rulers, Children of Maria Theresa by Justin C. Vovk. This book is about an imperial mother determined to forge alliances through marriage, and the price her children paid for it.
